District 9 lands at the top of the box office race.

Peter Jackson presents “District 9,” acheieved the number one spot in the box office this weekend. The Neill Blomkamp directed film eraned $37 million, according to early estimates.

 “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra”  finished in second place, followed by  “The Time Traveler’s Wife” starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams, Meryl Streep’s “Julie & Julia” and the suprise hit kids movie, “G-Force”.
