John Mellencamp and Stephen King (pictured L-R) are collaborating on a musical. Titled “Ghost Brothers of Darkland Country”, the musical is set to debut in Atlanta in September 2010.
Mellancamp has said to be working on the music since 2005 and has at least 15 songs written. King has written drafts for the musical as well.
Mellencamp described the musical in an interview that it is about two brothers who despise each other and discover that their father had two older brothers who also hated each other and killed each other in a cabin. The ghosts of the father’s brothers then haunt the sons.
The soundtrack album is expected to be released before the September 2010 premiere. Elvis Costello, Sheryl Crow and Kris Kristofferson will all be featured on the album.
Both Mellencamp and King are in the cast of the show.
“Ghost Brothers of Darkland County” will premiere at the Alliance Theater in Atlanta in September, 2010.
