Heading to Coachella next weekend? One of the pre-festival highlights will be a free movie screening of a film just right for the Coachella theme. On Thursday, April 12, fans can attend a screening of Dave Mackenzie’s “Tonight You’re Mine” in Palm Desert. The movie stars Luke Treadaway and Natalie Tena in this unexpected romantic comedy.
Directed by David Mackenzie, the movie also stars Mathew Baynton, Ruta Gedmintas, Alastair Mackenzie,Gavin Mitchell, Joseph Mydell, and Sophie Wu.
In the movie’s scenario, Adam (Treadaway) and Morello (Tena) have a big problem. It’s not that Adam is the heartthrob lead singer in a famous electro-pop band or that his girlfriend is a spoiled supermodel.
His problem is Morello’s problem. Morello’s problem isn’t that she’s lead singer in a struggling post-punk riot girl band or that she’s dating a banker. No, her problem is that she has to perform the biggest gig of her life at a music festival while handcuffed to the kind of person she totally despises – Adam.
So begins an out-there odd-ball romantic comedy filled with lust, mud, betrayal, booze, portaloos and a hundred thousand people partying to the greatest music in the world. None of whom seems to have the key – not to the meaning of life – but to the handcuffs.
Eugene Kelly, founder of Glasgow band The Vaselines and Treadaway wrote the songs for The Make (Adam’s band) working closely with electro-industrial producer Rico Capuano. Glasgow-based musician Brian McAlpine worked with The Dirty Pinks (Morello’s band), building on Tena’s influences and bringing a rockier, guitar-based edge to their sound.
“Tonight You’re Mine” will screen twice on Thursday, April 12 at the Cinema Palm d’Or, at 7pm and 9pm.
