It was an eclectic night at this year’s American Music Awards which were held in Los Angeles over the weekend. International rapper, Pitbull hosted the night which the night which was a mix of everything from Florida Georgia Line singing with Nelly, to Lady Gaga and R. Kelly recreating the Oval Office in a rendition of Marilyn Monroe and President Kennedy.
The show had something for everyone with everyone getting their share of the spotlight. Taylor Swift took home the night’s big award, winning Artist of the Year, beating out Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. The Red singer also took home trophies for Favorite Country Album, Favorite Feale Artist Country, and Favorite Country Album.
“My lucky number is 13, and so far you guys have made 2013 the most magical year of my life so far,” Swift said. “I cannot thank you enough. This validates that if you voted for this that we are heartbroken the same way and we fall in love the same way and we’re happy the same way. And the fact that you would listen to my music means … we’re pretty much in it together, aren’t we?”
Tonight’s performances were the talk of the show. After her Red Carpet entrance riding a human horse, Lady Gaga partnered with R Kelly for a live rendition of their duet “Do. The performance turned heads, keeping both the ABC sensors and Twitter busy with their ode to President John Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe.
A toned down version of Wrecking Ball got tongues wagging as Miley Cyrus appeared solo on stage
with a CGI lip-synching and crying cat as her only stage partner.
Other performances included country heart throb Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line with Nelly, Pitbull with Ke$ha, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Imagine Dragons, Jennifer Lopez honoring Cuban legend Celia Cruz and Katy Perry.
Rihanna was honored with the ICON Award presented to her by Bill Maher and her mother, Monica Braithwate.
