From Examiner: Will and Sonny to marry on ‘Days of our Lives’
“WilSon” fans rejoice! “Days of our Lives” is having a wedding next week when Will Horton and Sonny Kiriakis invite you to join in their nuptials beginning April 1st through April 4th, weekdays on NBC. The network’s longest running soap will make television history next week by airing the first gay marriage (between two men) in soap opera history!
The fan favorite couple, Will (Guy Wilson) and Sonny (Freddie Smith), will tie the knot in a beautiful ceremony presided by a surprise officiant. As “Days” fans remember, Will came out as gay in some of the show’s most powerful episodes to date. Since their first meeting Will and his soul mate Sonny became one of the show’s most popular super couples to root for, garnering the shipper name, “WilSon.” The episodes promise lots of loving moments and surprises as they profess their love for one another.
“Will and Sonny have an ability to communicate on a level that is pretty impressive given how relationships fair in daytime drama,” Wilson said about the couple in an interview with Daytime TV Examiner earlier this month. “There’s almost sort of an intuitive nature about them approaching it, In that sense for an actor, its exciting to get to work with another actor and breathe life into two characters that are so ready. To be vulnerable with one another, in my experience…in my opinion that’s a rarity in daytime drama. That’s a dynamic that’s going to continue to evolve through thick and thin going forward, the strong sense of nonverbal intimacy between Sonny and Will.”
“Days of our Lives” received their third GLAAD Award nomination for the story line earlier this year.
