“The Larry Sanders Show,” the Emmy award-winning series created by and starring the late Gary Shandling, is returning to HBO. The entire run of the series will begin airing on all of HBO’s platforms starting Friday, September 23 and on Monday, September 26. HBO completed the deal to present the entire run of the series the day before Shandling’s death.
“The Larry Sanders Show” is a fictional late-night talk show host that ran for six seasons and also starred Rip Torn, Jeffrey Tambor, Linda Doucett, Janeane Garofalo, Penny Johnson, Wallace Langham, Bob Odenkirk, Jeremy Piven, Mary Lynn Rajskub and Scott Thompson.
The show took advantage of the reel life setting with many celebrities playing themselves, including Roseanne Barr, Carol Burnett, Jim Carrey, Ellen DeGeneres, David Duchovny, Jay Leno, David Letterman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jerry Seinfeld, Warren Beatty, Jon Stewart and Robin Williams.
The show received Emmys for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Rip Torn.
