The Joey Mac Project will head into production this fall from Pop TV. The show will feature Joey Mc Intyre of New Kids on the Block. McIntyre himself serves as executive producer along with music and television star Donnie Wahlberg, TV and radio personality Jenny McCarthy, and television producers Tim Gibbons, Paul Greenberg and Jenny Daly.
In the series, Joey McIntyre plays a devoted husband, a loving father of three, and at 43, he’s still the youngest member of New Kids on the Block (NKOTB), but what he really wants is to be taken seriously as an actor. The scripted television comedy series is inspired by Joey’s real life, as the grown-up boy band member and actor who seeks his next showbiz gig after NKOTB’s latest sold out tour. The series will consist of eight episodes of the 30-minute comedy.
Donnie Walhberg and Jenny McCartney came up with the concept and presented it to POP TV produced two seasons of “Rock The Boat” the series about the band New Kids on the Block and their annual cruise. Walhberg appears in a cameo along with January Jones. Joey McIntyre first hit success and fame at just 13-years-old when he joined New Kids on the Block making him the youngest member of the all-boy band.
While the band initially split in 1994, Joey continued to pursue his passion for music, songwriting and performing, which led to his film debut in “The Fantasticks” in 1995, “The McCarthys” TV show on CBS and the movie “The Heat,” which was released in theaters last year.
With NKOTB’s reunion in 2008, Joey has been back on-tour with the band. On the home front, Joey and his wife, Barrett, live in Los Angeles with their three children, Griffin (8), Rhys (6) and Kira (5). “I’ve worked with Joey since we were kids,” explained Executive Producer Donnie Wahlberg, “but seeing all of his many talents come together in this show – I’ve never been more excited.”
McIntyre can be currently seen on the second season of “Rock The Boat” the series about the band New Kids on the Block and their annual cruise.
