Open Call 2016: Play which kicks off on Sunday Aug 14th at Barnsdall Park and will be open to the public through September 18th. The upcoming exhibition Open Call 2016: Play, at Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery (LAMAG) at Barnsdall Art Park at (4800 Hollywood Boulevard) . The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) and LAMAG continues its commitment to emerging SoCal artists with this community-based, thematic biennial, which explores the notion of “play” in all its forms.
This year’s Open Call continues what is among the largest and longest running non-juried exhibitions in Los Angeles. On view from August 18 through September 18.
The show is set to showcase work of more than 300 promising artists from across Southern California includingTom Wheeler’s Desert Fun, Allison Stewart’s inkjet work on archival paper, Gettysburg 2013, Nathaniel Paderanga’s oil painting Happy Birthday andNicole Sloan’s photograph Rock with Eyes. The exhibition, which kicks off with an opening reception on Sunday from 2:00p.m to 5:00 p.m., which is sponsored by the Barnsdall Art Park Foundation. The reception will feature an award ceremony honoring best in show ($250), second place ($100), third place ($50), and three honorable mentions ($30) selected by former LAMAG curator Scott Canty.
