‘ATWT’ Star Colleen Zenk Opens Up on Battling Oral Cancer
During “The Talk’s” special episode celebrating CBS Daytime being rated #1 for 30 years, “As The World Turns” actress Colleen Zenk (joined by former co-stars Martha Byrne, Ellen Dolan and Elizabeth Hubbard) reflects on her battle with oral cancer, and how her character, Barbara Ryan, mirrored her journey.
“I was diagnosed in real life in ’07, and then I partnered with Oral Cancer Foundation and we approached the show asking if they can write my cancer into Barbara’s storyline,” she said. “The show said yes, so Barbara got diagnosed in early ’08, and then my own cancer came back in ’09. And I went through treatment into 2010, ‘til just before we went off the air, and I’ve had subsequent mini-surgeries since then, but I’m clear.”
