The 2017 Golden Globes were presented earlier tonight in Beverly Hills. One of the earlier awards of the night went to actress Tracee Ellis Ross for her role in the comedy “Black-ish.”
Ross plays Rainbow Johnson, a working mother with an outspoken husband and four children trying to raise them in a pop culture little world.
Ross was excited to earn her first award which marked the first Golden Globe for an African-American woman in the category of Best Actress in a Comedy since Debbie Allen won in 1983.
“This is for all of the women, women of color, and colorful people whose stories, ideas, thoughts are not always considered worthy and valid and important. But I want you to know that I see you. We see you. It is an honor to be on this show “Black-ish,” to continue expanding the way we are seen and known and to show the magic and the beauty and the sameness of a story and stories that are outside of where the industry usually looks,” Ross said on stage.
Ross also thanked her parents, co-star Anthony Anderson, show co-creator Kenya Barris and the four actors who play her children on the show.
“Black-ish” airs on ABC.
