On FOX’s hit drama “Gotham,” Bruce Wayne’s transformation into the Batman is coming to a head in season three. With two Bruce Wayne’s in town, actor David Mazouz, has the difficult task of playing two very intense characters.
“It’s difficult,” Mazouaz said at press interviews at WonderCon. “When I have scenes with myself, a lot of times what I like to do is feel out the scene. I like to play off the other person. I don’t like to prepare too much. I like to just learn my lines before hand. The acting choices I make in the moment as instinct. Most of the time that works, but when I’m acting against myself I can’t do that. When I have scenes with myself, I’ll do my Bruce 2 version first and then I’ll do my Bruce 1 version or vice versa. I have to plan out the other version of what I’m playing because I need to react to it. Its another step in the preparation process but it’s been something that’s not so much a challenge but its been something I’ve learned.”
Gotham returns with new episodes on Monday, April 24 on Fox. While there is still a while before we see the actual Batman costume, Mazouz carefully hints that there will be some hints to Bruce’s transformation. “There might be another outfit that Bruce will start to wear because he will start to do because he’ll start to have an another role in the City of Gotham.”
Naturally, Bruce will struggle with an identity crisis that will him to make an important decision about his future. At the panel discussion with the cast, Mazouz talked about his character’s challenges for the rest of the season.
“Bruce will go through a major transformation in these last eight episodes of the season, and it will result in him making a decision that he’s been searching for, for a very long time,” Mazouz said. “It will be the most important decision of his life. He is going to live out the reason he was created, and it will have very bad consequences for Bruce—catastrophic consequences. I don’t want to give away too much, but it’s not going to be pretty.”
