Saturday August 26th marked the 20th annual Fedorin Cup hosted by Rick Hutchinson at Anaheim Ice in Anaheim, CA.
The Fedorin cup game was started in 1998 to raise money to support local hockey player Eric Fedorin who was battling a brain tumor. Though Eric Fedorin ultimately lost his battle with cancer, his friends and hockey legends continue to fight the fight for him and many others.
In the annual “Fedorin Cup” game- past and present players come together in the name of charity. For many, this is the only place they will get to see their favorite retired player play against their current NHL favorites. In a Canada Vs USA format, this year it was Team USA that came away with the win after an over time shootout made the final score 14-13.
The day started with an outdoor party where fans could purchase merchandise and play games to win hockey prizes. Once the game started it was all in good fun as the players teased and joked with each other. Where else can you see Teemu Selanne check his own son to the ice?
In between periods the players are more than willing to sign autographs and pose for pictures with fans.
The night concluded with a dinner catered by Selanne Steak House and a silent auction, raffle and casino games.
This year’s game included such names as: Getzlaf, Selanne, Cogliano,Pronger, Lemiuex, Kerdiles, Merchant, Allen and many more.
