‘Ready Player One’ is loaded with Classic ’70s and ’80s Songs

As you may know by now, Steven Spielberg’s “Ready Player One” is full of fun nostalgia for anyone who has ever played a video game and hoped to pick out their own avatar. The movie references and nods to the 80s, 90s, and 2000s are plenty with plenty of throwbacks to classic movies like “The Shining” “Back To The Future,” “The Breakfast Club,” and “Saturday Night Fever.”  The action adventure movie is based on Ernest Cline’s best-selling book of the same name.

What also makes for a fun time at the movie is the music. Spielberg tapped composer Alan Silvestri (The Avengers, the Back to the Future Trilogy, Forrest Gump), for the score which is available for purchase.  A two-CD version of the soundtrack is slated for an April 6 release, with a Double Vinyl configuration of the soundtrack available July 13.

“While all sorts of culturally iconic references populate “Ready Player One,” the score that Alan Silvestri composed is completely and intoxicatingly original,” Speilberg said about Silvestri. “It’s bound together by multiple themes that identify plot and character and is infused by such percussive adrenaline and soaring strings that Alan has made “Ready Player One” appear to fly. I think his score is fantastic.”

The Ready Player One” soundtrack is available now and the twenty-two-song album track listing is as follows. All music by Alan Silvestri.

Synopsis:

In the year 2045, the real world is a harsh place. The only time Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) truly feels alive is when he escapes to the OASIS, an immersive virtual universe where most of humanity spend their days. In the OASIS, you can go anywhere, do anything, be anyone—the only limits are your own imagination. The OASIS was created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance), who left his immense fortune and total control of the OASIS to the winner of a three-part contest he designed to find a worthy heir. When Wade conquers the first challenge of the reality-bending treasure hunt, he and his friends—known as the High Five—are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS and their world.
