Aretha Franklin has passed away at the age of 76. She was born March 25, 1942, and began her career as a child singing gospel at her father’s church.
In 1967 she broke out on the scene with commercial hits songs like “RESPECT”, “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” and “Think.”
By the end of the ’60’s, she was named Queen of Soul and would go on to record a total of 112 charted singles on Billboard, including 77 Hot 100 entries, 17 top ten pop singles, 100 R&B entries and twenty number-one R&B singles, becoming the most charted female artist in the chart’s history.
Aretha has sold over 75 million records to date and was the first female performer inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Rolling Stone named her one of the greatest singers and artists of all time.
After 57 years on stage, Franklin announced her retirement plans last year.
She was one of the most iconic voices in music history. Over the course of her decades-long career, she inspired countless musicians and fans and created a legacy that paved the way for a long line of strong female artists.
