Showtime will celebrate its upcoming music documentaries SHANGRI-LA and WU-TANG CLAN: OF MICS AND MEN as well as series BLACK MONDAY, THE CHI and SHAMELESS at the South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conference and Festivals from Monday, March 11 through Wednesday, March 13. Monday, March 11: THE SHOWTIME HOUSE OF MUSIC
The network will kick off SXSW with a work-in-progress screening of the upcoming docu-series SHANGRI-LA, the latest project from Academy Award® and Grammy winner Morgan Neville (Won’t You Be My Neighbor, 20 Feet From Stardom) about legendary music producer Rick Rubin, at 2:45 p.m. at the Paramount Theater. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Neville, moderated by bestselling author Neil Strauss. In honor of the early look at SHANGRI-LA, and the upcoming docu-series WU-TANG CLAN: OF MICS AND MEN, the SHOWTIME House Of Music will shine a light on the diverse SHOWTIME music documentary offerings. The network will offer afternoon music trivia games, a Wu-Tang Clan name generator photo booth, concert concession stand snacks and DJ sets. The evening will be a party featuring music inspired by Rick Rubin. WU-TANG CLAN: OF MICS AND MEN, the four-part limited docuseries from filmmaker Sacha Jenkins (BURN MOTHERF*CKER, BURN!), will premiere on Friday, May 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME and SHANGRI-LA will debut later this year. Tuesday, March 12: THE SHOWTIME HOUSE OF BEATS AND STREETS
SHOWTIME will bring together the best of New York and Chicago at SXSW, showcasing hit series BLACK MONDAY and THE CHI. With stars Paul Scheer (BLACK MONDAY) and Jacob Latimore (THE CHI), SHOWTIME will debut a Secret Walls competition, the ultimate live illustration battle of the art scene. Two artists, one from New York and one from Chicago, will go head-to-head in a ninety minute, black and white only battle, creating live art at Clive Bar. The SHOWTIME House Of Beats And Streets will also offer popular food from both cities, daytime DJs, and live musical acts at night, including a performance by Latimore, as well as Grammy Lifetime Award Winner and Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Mavis Staples and DJ Spinderella. BLACK MONDAY airs on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT up until the first season finale on Sunday, March 31. THE CHI will premiere its second season on Sunday, April 7 at 10 p.m., only on SHOWTIME. SHAMELESS will be back at SXSW, featuring the most Gallagher-style carnival ever to hit Austin.
