“American Idol” has been renewed for a third season on ABC, and its 18th season to date. The news was announced to fans through their Twitter account ahead of ABC’s Upfront presentation and Idol’s May 19 season finale.
ABC has not said whether judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie will all be returning next season. “I know. That’s still up in the air,” Bryan told reporters after the show. Bryan, Richie, and Perry have reported all been asked to return but deals have not yet been reached.
Host Ryan Seacrest, who has been with the show since the beginning, including its year’s on FOX, is said to return as well as House Mentor Bobby Bones. Bones confirmed his return to reporters in interviews after the Sunday, May 12th show.
“Mine. I’m done,” Bones said when asked how contract negotiations were going. “I’m in. So I don’t know. I don’t know what else is happening. I’m in.”
The finale of Season 2 with contestants Laine Hardy, Madison Vanderburg and Alejandro Aranda in the finale will include a host of performers including former Idols turned superstars Carrie Underwood and Adam Lambert.
