“Dancing With the Stars” has already lost their first celebrity of the season. Supermodel Christie Brinkley, who was vying for the trophy and was featured heavily in the promotions, due to injury.
“Good Morning America” reported the news Monday morning just hours before tonight’s Season 28 premiere. Brinkley will be replaced by her daughter, model Sailor Brinkley-Cook, after suffering the injury during rehearsals.
Official Statement regarding Christie Brinkley’s participation in “Dancing with the Stars” from BBC Studios and ABC:
“While rehearsing for the premiere of ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ Christie Brinkley suffered injuries which required surgery to her wrist and arm. She is unable to continue her planned participation on the show. Keeping it all in the family, her daughter Sailor Brinkley-Cook, a Sports Illustrated model, has chosen to quickly step in with hours to learn the entire routine and will compete in her mother’s place for the remainder of the season. We wish Christie a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her in the audience, whenever possible, proudly supporting Sailor.”
Also competing for the Mirror Ball Trophy are “The Office” actress Kate Flannery, country music singer Lauren Alaina, singer Ally Brooke, “The Bachelorette” Hannah Brown, “Supremes” singer Mary Wilson, Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer, actor James Van Der Beek, basketball star Lamar Odom, Super Bowl MVP Ray Lewis, comedian and actor Kel Mitchell and TV host and “Queer Eye” star Karamo
It all starts Monday, Spetember 16 at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
