“The Voice” returned for their Season 18 premiere tonight with a fresh round of talent hoping that the coaches newbie Nick Jonas and returning coaches John Legend, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson will turn their chair and fight for them to be on their team.
One of the standout Blind Auditions was 18-year-old Joanna Serenko from St. Loius. Joanna performed a jazz version of The Beatles’ “All My Loving” resulting in a 4-chair turn. As the coaches fought for her, Kelly and Blake all assumed that John would be the chosen one.
Just as Joanna was making her choice, Nick jumped in to say that it wasn’t over, that while John may be the obvious coach for her, he wanted to fight.
Ultimately Joanna picked Nick. Joanna started piano and voice lessons at 6 and later went on to join her marching band, show choir, and musical theater. After opening for a local musician in high school, Joanna started to gain traction in her community and recently won a citywide talent competition. Joanna’s mother is a nurse and would love for her to pursue a job in the medical field. However, her mom and dad are very encouraging of her musical aspirations and are both in support of her decision to put college on hold and pave her own path while chasing her dreams on “The Voice.”
Did she make the right choice or should Joanna have chosen John?
