Back in March, it was announced that Journey’s Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain had parted ways with long-time bassist Ross Valory and drummer Steve Smith from the band.
In May, Journey canceled all of its 2020 tour dates due to ongoing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. The band was set to tour with The Pretenders from May to September for over 60 shows. The band said in a statement that they decided to cancel instead of postponing so that fans could receive ticket refunds.
Since then there has been no announcement of replacement players until now. The band performed virtually for UNICEF Won’t Stop Tonight benefit on Saturday, May 23 which aired on MSNBC. Schon and Cain performed with their longtime vocalist Arnel Pineda and joining them on drums were Narada Michael Walden and on bass was Randy Jackson.
Schon confirmed on Instagram that Walden and Jackson were now in the band and an additional keyboardist Jason Derlatka. This is Jackson’s second stint in Journey. He was the band from 1985-1987 and appears on the bands “Raised on Radio” record. Walden is a well-known artist, songwriter, musician, and producer.
