‘Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil’ Debuts at SXSW

Demi Lovato’s YouTube Docuseries, “Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil” opened up South by Southwest’s Film and Music festival. The series starts March 23. The series is its opening-night headliner YouTube channel in four parts on a weekly schedule starting March 23^rd.

“Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil” contains interviews from Lovato’s friends and family, including her former assistant, choreographer/friend and current manager Scooter Braun. Partitions were given permission to say anything, nothing was off limits.

The complete honesty nature of the series gives those who were affected the most by what happened, allowing each person to tell their truth.

The most honest was Demi herself who shares in detail her medical side effects of the overdose, two strokes and a heart attack that has left her with blind spots and not being able to drive. “I don’t think people realize how bad I actually was,” Demi says in the series.

“I had three strokes, I had a heart attack, I suffered brain damages from three strokes,” she explains. “I can’t drive anymore, and I have blind spots in my vision, so sometimes when I go to pour a glass of water, I’ll like, totally miss the cup because I can’t see it anymore. I also had pneumonia cause I asphyxiated and multiple organ failure.”

She also shared her sexual assault from the drug dealer who provided her with the drugs that caused the overdose as well as her assault as a teenager. The singer also shared how she isn’t 100% sober, choosing to still drink and smoke marijuana in moderation. 

In July 2018, the singer was found unconscious at her home in Los Angeles.  Demi, who battled drug and alcohol addiction in years past, spent almost two weeks in a hospital before undergoing treatment at a rehab facility and then a sober living facility.

 “Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil” is a powerful YouTube Originals documentary event, exploring every aspect that led to Lovato’s nearly fatal overdose in 2018, and her awakenings in the aftermath. Director Michael D. Ratner is granted unprecedented access to the superstar’s personal and musical journey during the most trying time of her life as she unearths her prior traumas and discovers the importance of her physical, emotional, and mental health. Far deeper than an inside look beyond the celebrity surface, the docuseries is an intimate portrait of addiction, and the process of healing and empowerment.
