Les McKeown, former lead singer of The Bay City Rollers has passed away at 65. His family posted the news on his official social media pages. The Bay City Rollers were a Scottish band who became teen idols in the 1970s. They were compared to The Beatles and their heyday was called “Rollermania” a take on “Beatlemania” based on The Beatles early success.
The group’s line-up had many changes over the years, but the classic line-up included McKeown, Eric Faulkner, Stuart Wood and brothers Alan Longmuir and Derek Longmuir.
In recent years, McKeown has performed as a solo artist and in reunion tours with his former bandmates.
The Bay City Rollers have sold 120 million records worldwide.
