Luke Skywalker is an Emmy winner. Mark Hamill, who played the “Star Wars” legend throughout 40 odd years of the “space” movies was one of the winners in the Daytime Emmys’ Children’s and Animation categories.
Hamill took home the Emmy in the Outstanding Performer in a Preschool Animated Program. He was recognized for his performance as Vuli in the Disney Channel series “Elena of Avalor.”
The Children’s and Animated ceremony was hosted by Raven-Symoné who presented Hamill with the award.
“I’m overwhelmed first of all…I’d like to acknowledge my fellow nominees. To be in a category with such talented actors who were so good at what they do,” Hamill said in his accemptance speech. He also mentioned his love of voice-over work.
“I love the fact that they cast with their ears, not their eyes,” said Hamill, ” said. “So you’re able to play parts that you would never get if you’re on camera. So it’s a character actor’s dream. And I love the anonymity of it. I love the fact that they can’t see you. It frees you up. It liberates you to make bold choices… I love the voice-over community. They’re some of the most gracious, welcoming and talented people I’ve ever encountered in all my years in this business.”
This is Hamill’s first Daytime Emmy win. He was nominated previously for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program in 2015 for “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and in 2019 for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for his role in “Kulipari: Dream Walker.”
Hamill currently voices Skeletor in “Masters of the Universe: Revelation.”
