“General Hospital” aired its special episode in honor of Nurse Epiphany Johnson whose portrayer Sonya Eddy passed away late last year. Eddy was on the series since 2006.
In the episode, Marshall (Robert Gossett) mourns the loss of his friend. He feels guilty for being the one who pushed Epiphany to become a doctor, and if he hadn’t, she’d still be here.
Marshall later meets Milo, Epiphany’s ex. Milo (Drew Cheatwood) reflects with Sonny (Maurice Bernard) and recalls when he asked Epiphany out and they started dating, and he ends up in tears.
Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) plans Epiphany’s memorial at the hospital chapel. She learns from a woman (Yvette Nicole Brown) that Epiphany died helping her during a car accident. After the service Elizabeth, who feels that Epiphany was disappointed in her for her latest troubles, received a phone call from Monica. Epiphany recommended Elizabeth to be General Hospital’s next head nurse. Epiphany passed the torch in a sense to her friend.
The episode ended with clips of some of Epiphany’s memorable moments on the show, followed by the patrons all assembled on the roof for a fireworks display played over Eddy’s version of “You’re Not Alone” from the show’s Nurses Ball. The episode can be seen on ABC.com and Hulu.
