With the Tony Awards not airing due to the writers’ strike, Broadway fans can get their musical fix from PBS. Great Performances is celebrating its 50th anniversary season with an all-new special. “Great Performances Celebrating 50 Years of Broadway’s Best,” is a star-studded concert celebrating Broadway during the series’ 50 years on PBS spanning from the early 1970s to the present day. Spotlighting songs from Stephen Schwartz, Kander and Ebb to Andrew Lloyd Webber, the concert is hosted by Tony Award winner Sutton Foster.
Standout performances include Chita Rivera singing “All That Jazz,” Sara Bareilles singing from her award-winning musical “Waitress,” Vanessa Williams performing a number from “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” and many more. The show also features unforgettable numbers from “The Wiz,” “Evita” and “A Chorus Line.”
Premiering May 12 at 9 pm ET on PBS (check local listings), pbs.org/broadwayonpbs and the PBS app.
