Check out the trailer for “The Color Purple,” heading to theaters on December 25. The Alice Walker book of the same name on which the movie was based, has seen many versions including the 1985b Steven Spielberg movie which launched the careers of Whoopi Goldberg and Oprah Winfrey, and the Tony Award-winning musical that starred Fantasia Barrino and Danielle Brooks, each reprising their roles in the upcoming movie. “The Color Purple” also stars Halle Bailey, H.E.R., Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, and Taraji P. Henson.
The movie is “The coming-of-age tale follows Celie, a Black woman living in rural Georgia in the early 1900s who is abused by her father and husband. Ultimately, she reclaims her power in an “extraordinary sisterhood of three women who share one unbreakable bond.”
