The weekend Movies Box Office for the week ending December 10 saw 4 musical movies landing in the Top 10 but coming in at #1 was the animated feature “The Boy and the Heron.” The acclaimed Hayao Miyazaki movie made over $12 million to come out on top.
“The Boy and the Heron” tells the story of Mahito, a young 12-year-old boy, who struggles to settle in a new town after his mother’s death. However, when a talking heron informs Mahito that his mother is still alive, he enters an abandoned tower in search of her, which takes him to another world.is a hand-drawn, original story written and directed by the Academy Award®-winning director. Produced by Studio Ghibli co-founder Toshio Suzuki, the film features a musical score from Miyazaki’s long-time collaborator Joe Hisaishi. The theme song for the film “Spinning Globe” was penned and performed by global J-pop superstar Kenshi Yonezu.
The Japanese movie features an all-star voice cast, including Christian Bale, David Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Mark Hamill and Robert Pattinson.
Beyonce’s “Renaissance” concert film, Disney’s “Wish,” “Waitress the Musical” and “Trolls Band Together” all landed in the Top 10 for the week.
