American Idol Season 22 aired the premiere episode on Sunday, February 18 th at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The season started off with its traditional audition episodes. The show traveled to the judges’ home town to see where they grew up and to look for new talent. Lionel Richie hails from Tuskegee, Alabama. Luke Bryan hails from Leesburg, Georgia and Katy Perry is from Santa Barbara, California.
After the auditions, the hopefuls will arrive in Los Angeles for group rounds and a chance to advance to the live shows.
Judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan return for their seventh season on the panel. Ryan Seacrest also returns to the show as the host for the past 22 seasons.
