American Idol aired on Monday, April 29 with the Top 8 contestants performing to make the Top 7 of the competition.

The theme was the Judge’s Song Contest. The judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan selected songs for the Top 8 contestants to perform. At the end of the show, the judge with the most songs selected was announced as the winner.

Perry who won last year was the winner again. Therefore, she got to select a contestant to save from the bottom two from the live vote from elimination. The bottom 2 were Kaibrienne and McKenna Faith Breinholt.

Perry consulted with her fellow judges and decided to save McKenna Faith Breinholt which left Kaibrienne eliminated from the show.

The Top 7 contestants are Jack Blocker, Emmy Russell, Abi Carter, Julia Gagnon, Triston Harper, Will Mosley and McKenna Faith Breinholt.

American Idol airs live coast -to- coast this Sunday, May 5 with guest mentor Ciara, a performance by Meghan Trainor and a live vote for The Top 5.
