Lamorne Morris picked up his first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his role in “Fargo.” Morris was best known for his comedic turn in “New Girl,” so this was a great turn for the actor as the detective on the drama which also starred Juno Temple and Jon Hamm.
Morris saw himself up against Jonathan Bailey (Fellow Travelers), John Hawkes (True Detective: Night Country), Tom Goodman-Hill (Baby Reindeer), Treat Williams (Feud: Capote vs. The Swans) and Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. (The Sympathizer) who he gave a special shout out to. “Robert Downey Junior, I’ve got a poster of you in my house. Please sign it.,” he said to which Downey gave the thumbs up.
Moments later, the actor was still overwhelmed by it all.
“I keep thinking someone is going to steal this *** from me,” Morris said holding his Emmy backstage in the press room. “I can’t believe it. This feels a bit like a dream. I kind of spaced out for a while when they called my name. I have a great squad around me.”
Morris next stars as comedian Garrett Morris in the critically acclaimed “Saturday Night” which recounts the premiere episode of “Saturday Night Live.” The Jason Reitman movie, hits theaters next month. When asked if he plans to talk to SNL producer Lorne Michaels about the movie Morris hadn’t. “Not yet,” Morris said. “I’m going to. Not about the movie but about me hosting. I would love to host the show.”
“Fargo” is now streaming on Hulu.
