“The Bear” continues to win Emmys. Liza Colon-Zayas took home her first ever Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for her role in restaurant comedy at the 2024 Emmys her role as Tina on the show. Colon-Zayas was in some tough competition in the category including Carol Burnett for “Palm Royale,” Hannah Einbinder for “Hacks,” Janelle James for “Abbott Elementary,” Sheryl Lee Ralph for “Abbott Elementary,” and Meryl Streep, for “Only Murders in the Building.”
“How could I have thought it would be possible to be in the presence of Meryl Streep and Carol Burnett and Janelle and Sheryl Lee Ralph and Hannah,” she said on stage of her fellow nominees. The Puerto Rican actress had a message for Latinas. “..Of the Latinas who are looking at me, keep believing and vote. Vote for your rights.” Colon-Zayas became the first Latina to win in her category and she stressed the importance of the award to her.
“It’s an epic honor, for this South Bronx Puerto Rican for other like me to see this and see that it’s possible,” she said of her win backstage in the press room.
She hoped to celebrate with her castmates at the end of the night including Jeremy Allen White and Ebon Moss-Bachrach also won Emmys for Outstanding Actor and Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
“I think we’re all just going to hang out, you know. Just get loud. We got a couple of parties so that’s where I’m going to be.”
“The Bear” is now streaming on Hulu.
