“American Idol“ is continuing with its fan favorite Hollywood Week on Sunday, and one of the contestants hoping to move on to the next round is Southern California native Desmond Roberts. The 26-year-old wowed the judges in his audition with his rendition of “Beautiful Things” by Idol alum and Grammy Best New Artist nominee Benson Boone. Roberts is having a go the second time around. He first tried out for the show ten years ago and feels things are different this time around. “I did grow, I did change,” Roberts told ABC7 Los Angeles in a zoom interview. “I did actually improve on what it is as what I was made to do. It was very fun watching their reaction especially cause in the audition I had my eyes closed the entire time…when I look back at it they really did enjoy it.” The School of Rock music teacher said the judges liking his performance was extremely validating.

On Sunday April 6, Hollywood week continues with the “American Idol” competitors performing in the “Showstopper” episode, delivering powerful performances that could make or break their journey to fame. Jelly Roll joins as the first artist in residence to guide them along the way. On Monday, April 7 the Top 24 vying for America’s vote to be the next American Idol is revealed.

“American Idol” airs Sundays and Mondays on ABC.
