The science-fiction blockbuster “Avatar” has received a Best Director nomination from the Directors Guild of America. It’s director, James Cameron, was a previous winner for the blockbuster Titanic which was the biggest box office earner of all time. Also nominated are Kathryn Bigelow for the War drama “The Hurt Locker,” Lee Daniels for “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire,” Jason Reitman for “Up in the Air” starring George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino for the World War II hit film “Inglourious Basterds.”
Bigelow, Daniels and Reitman are first time nominees.
The guild announces TV, documentary and commercial nominations on Friday, January 8. Friday.
The Guild’s Lifetime-Achievement Awards will go to director Norman Jewison, whose films include “In the Heat of the Night,” “A Soldier’s Story” and “Moonstruck,” in which Cher won an Oscar.
