Paula Abul talks 'Live To Dance' on CBS morning news Jan 2

Paula Adul recently sat down with CBS’s Joan Chen to discuss her career, America Idol, her new show “Live To Dance’ and the infamous rumors about her personal life.

Abdul spoke of her idol Gene Kelly and how she once thought he were her father.

“I looked back at my dad, and I said, ‘That’s my dad.’ And my father says, ‘No, I’m your dad. That can be your television dad.’ And I fell in love with Gene Kelly,” Abdul said. “As my parents put it, I stood up and I put my fist down and said, ‘I’m going to be an entertainer.'”

When speaking of the rumors of drug and alcohol abuse during her time as an “American Idol” judge, Abdul set the record straight.

“I’ve never had a drinking problem … Even though I’ve been in this business for quite some time. I’ve never physically been drunk in my life. I’ve never been drunk in my life. I don’t use recreational drugs. But, I am goofy,” Abdul said.

To see the interview watch “CBS Sunday Morning” January 2 at 9 a.m. ET/PT.
“Live To Dance” premieres Tuesday January 4 then in its regular time January 5 on CBS.
