PBS Arts is back this fall on Friday nights with their Great Performance’s series and “Live From Lincoln Center,” hosted by Lin-Manuel Miranda, ‘Hamilton’s” Tony and Grammy Award-winning creator and star. Highlights of the series includes a documentary on the Broadway sensation “Hamilton,” named Hamilton’s America,” and a performance of the legendary hit “Gypsy.”
Great Performances “Hamilton’s America,” which debuts October 21, gives viewers a look at Miranda and the “Hamilton” cast as they exercise the creative process of putting on the show that would go on to receive the record-breaking musical winner of 11 Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize.
“I’m such a huge fan of PBS. For my entire life it’s been our window into a world of the arts that isn’t available anywhere else on TV,” said Lin-Manuel Miranda in a statement. “This year’s PBS Arts Fall Festival lineup is incredible, and I am excited to not only host the festival, but have ‘Hamilton’s America’ kick it off.”
Great Performances will also broadcast a performance of Stephen Sondheim’s “Gypsy,” starring Imelda Staunton as Momma Rose and “Shakespeare Live! From the Royal Shakespeare Company” with Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Helen Mirren and Benedict Cumberbatch.
Live From Lincoln Center debuts “Lang Lang’s New York Rhapsody,” a love letter from renowned pianist Lang with a mixture of classical and pop music featuring performances by Rufus Wainwright, Suzanne Vega, Regina Spektor and Andra Day.
Other highlights in Live From Lincoln Center are “Joshua Bell’s Seasons of Cuba” and a special presentation of “Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater,” for Live From Lincoln Center at the Movies.
