Sterling K. Brown took home an Emmy Sunday night his role as California D.A. Christopher Darden in “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.” The actor won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie.

“A lot of you may not have known who I was, but you checked the box anyway,” Brown said in his acceptance speech. The humble actor went on to thank his acting school colleagues in New York and at Stanford University plus his “People” co-star Sarah Paulson, who won an Emmy herself for her role as Marsha Clark in the series.

When it came time to thank his wife, Ryan Michelle Bathe, Brown boasted “I got the hottest chick in the game rocking my chain.” The saying soon became one of the catchphrases of the night as other winners used the term to thank their wives.

Also nominated in the category with Brown were his “The People v. O.J. Simpson” cast members John Travolta and David Schwimmer, Jesse Plemons and Bokeem Woodbine for “Fargo,” and Hugh Laurie for “The Night Manager.”

Next for Brown is the highly anticipated series “This Is Us” premiering on NBC.
