’24: Legacy’: a new hero tries to beat the clock after Superbowl LI on FOX

Today’s Superbowl game against the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons is sure to be action-packed and this year’s post-Superbowl TV spot is sure to be just as exciting. That’s because “24” is back, sort of.

 “24: Legacy” is a spinoff of the action thriller that had Jack Bauer frantically trying to save the world from counter-terrorism, one day at a time. The series will kick off its two-night premiere after the Superbowl and then moves to its regular time slot on Monday, February 6th at 8:00 p.m. on FOX. 

 Jack’s not around this time (24 star Kiefer Sutherland serves as one of “Legacy’s” executive producers) so a new hero is born. In “24: Legacy,” Eric Carter (Corey Hawkins) was the leader of a squad of U.S. Army Rangers who successfully carried out a secret co-op mission overseas to kill a terrorist leader. That leader-followers retaliate by offing the members of Carter’s squad, one man at a time. 

Once the action starts, Eric is on the run and turns to his former boss, Rebecca (Miranda Otto), who was head of the counter-terrorism unit at the time of Eric’s mission. The only problem with asking for Rebecca’s help that is, she is no longer in charge and her husband John (Jimmy Smits) is running for President. She must decide how to help without the new head of the CTU knowing. 

All the same thrills and action are there from the original show and of course, there is the real-time clock and keeps track of time and reminds Eric and viewers how long a day actually is when someone is trying to kill you and you have to save the world while dodging bullets. 

Joining Hawkins, Otto and Smits are Anna Diop, Teddy Sears, Dan Bucatinsky, Ashley Thomas, Charlie Hofheimer, Coral Peña, Gerald McRaney, Raphael Acloque, Sheila Vand and Carlos Bernard as original series character, Tony Almeida.
