‘Steve’: Steve Harvey returns to Daytime with new talk show format

Steve Harvey is back with all new episodes of his Emmy-winning talk show but this time the prolific host returns to morning television with a new name, new look and new lease on Daytime.

Simply called “Steve,” Harvey’s nationally syndicated show moves from Chicago to Los Angeles and premieres on Tuesday, September 5 at 2:00 p.m. on NBC. Harvey is also serves as executive producer alongside of Shane Farley who served as EP on the Rosie O’Donnell and Rachael Ray.

The show will have more of a late night feel that Harvey says reflects the changing landscape of Daytime television and is will be different from the outgoing “Steve Harvey Show” that targeted a primarily female audience.

“I’ll always be a champion for women,” Harvey said. “But I’ve looked at daytime TV and the landscape has changed from when I first started. So many shows have fallen by the wayside, and you get into this cookie-cutter mode of daytime TV, where it has to have a ‘takeaway.’ I think that’s changed. What kept me relevant is that I was one of the few men heading up a daytime TV show, and one of the few people who gave an honest opinion on a wide range of topics. That’s been very refreshing for people. So I’m not going to change that. But since a takeaway is no longer necessary on daytime TV — no one cares about how to change a carburetor on their car … they’ve got YouTube now. I  think that someone who comes to daytime and can bring a late-night flavor, have a desk, do a monologue, go out there and have fun, interview some celebrities and have fun with them, I think that person can be winning. I think Ellen [DeGeneres] does that as well as anybody … just think that Ellen needs some company.”

The line-up of guests for “Steve’s” premiere week is listed below:

Tuesday, September 5
Comedian and talk show host Chelsea Handler
Actor Marlon Wayans
Musical Guest James Arthur

Wednesday, September 6
Actor Ice Cube

Thursday, September 7

Harvey already has a long list of hosting jobs including the radio program, “Steve Harvey Morning Show,” “Steve Harvey’s Funderdome,” “Family Feud,” “Celebrity Family Feud,” “Showtime at the Apollo” “Forever Young” and “Little Big Shots.”
