The Paley Center for Media honored Hollywood Icon Barbra Streisand with the Paleyfest Icon Award to kick off the 35th annual PaleyFest.
Streisand sat down for a conversation about her television career with good friend, producer Ryan Murphy asking the questions for the opening night of the week-long festival that includes conversations with the casts and creative teams of “The Big Bang Theory,” “Young Sheldon,” “Mom,” “Supernatural” and “Queen Sugar” to name a few.
Streisand’s television specials, “My Name is Barbra,” “A Happening in Central Park,” and her work with talents including Judy Garland and Ray Charles. Her work has earned her four Emmys.

When asked by an audience member what TV shows she’s enjoyed, Streisand said Netflix’s “The Crown,” “Homeland,” “Life In Pieces” and Ryan’s current FX series “American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace” to which she told Murphy was scary and she fast forwards to watch Penelope Cruz’s and Edgar Ramirez’s scenes.
Streisand also talked about her lengthy movie career which has given her and most joy creatively. Her work as director on such films as “Yentl” and “The Prince of Tides.”
“That is such a complete experience,’ Streisand says. “It just involves every sense you have, every nerve end, your taste or your visual qualities,” she said. “To be in control and not have to feel frustrated, it’s just so wonderful. You feel so humbled by it, humbled by that power.”
Streisand has earned her two Oscars including a Best Actress Award for “Funny Girl” and a Directing Golden Globe for “Yentl.”
As expected, the remake of “A Star is Born” starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper was mentioned. When asked what she thought of the Copper directed vehicle, the icon wouldn’t share any details about the scenes she saw when she visited the set during filming.
“Oh, I can’t say too much. I haven’t seen too much, but it’s good,” Streisand said. Lady Gaga and Cooper star in the same roles she and Kris Kristofferson played in the 1976 version of the classic film.Streisand later took to Twitter to thank the Paley Center For Media and all those who attended.
