Anime Expo can be overwhelming, especially for a first-timer. There is so much to do and so much to see. How do you cram it into 4 fun-filled days?
Anime is hugely influential on American filmmaking, but the genre itself still retains more of a cult vibe. It is estimated that more than 100,000 thousand people will attend the event this year. Day1 in the event is well underway but here are a few tips from AX (as it’s called) that will make the event that rivals Comic-Con in scale more fun.
AX itself puts out videos every year of what to expect. Here’s a closing video from last year.
After spending your first day exploring, you can settle in with an evening welcome ceremony that includes performances from special guests.
The cosplay at AX is amazing and AX2018 is already living up to the hype. You’ll see cosplayers embodying their characters, putting on a show for your entertainment. During preview night alone, everyone from Sailor Moon to Star-Lord (yes, from Guardians of the Galaxy) was represented.
They throw some epic concerts, with J-pop, J-rock, and more J-genres trying to blow your minds and get your heart pumping. On the downside, the headliners require that you buy an extra ticket on top of your existing Anime Expo badge — but they also have local bands for your enjoyment on the Community Stage and in their 21+ lounge.
