On last night’s “The Voice,” a group of talented artists all sang in front of the red chairs hoping one would turn, giving them the chance of a lifetime and work with a superstar coach to help make their dreams come true. The Blind Auditions had coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani excited to turn their chairs.

Calvin Lockett – Team Gwen

Calvin grew up singing in church with both of his parents being pastors. At 13, he knew he wanted to pursue music after getting a solo role in his school play. To take his skills to the next level, he began listening to music outside of the church and fell in love with the singer-songwriter genre. In college, Calvin started writing music with like-minded artists, but always felt the local music scene wasn’t the right fit for him. Calvin recently moved to North Carolina for a fresh start and hopes “The Voice” can help jumpstart his music career.
Melinda – Team Kelly
Melinda was raised by a single mother who worked nights as a registered nurse to care for her and her siblings. Melinda inherited her mother’s work ethic and took the public bus two hours each way to attend a performing arts middle and high school where she fell in love with jazz. All her hard work seemed to pay off when she got into the New England Conservatory in Boston. However, Melinda returned home a year later to care for her brother suffering from chronic heart failure. Melinda currently works three jobs while attending graduate school at the University of Illinois, runs the jazz vocal department and performs regularly with two bands.
Katie Kadan – Team Legend

Katie was surrounded by music from a young age and joined Chicago’s All God’s Children’s Choir when she was 10. She spent the next decade singing in church and choirs, but never had the confidence to perform on her own. Katie taught music on the side, but always felt something was missing. At 30, she did an open mic and was floored by the positive response, so she started booking gigs and slowly began to accept herself. For the past seven years, Katie has been more spirited than ever while singing professionally in Chicago’s blues community and hopes to spread her message of body positivity.
