The 47th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were broadcast tonight on CBS after several years online. The hosts, presenters and winners handed out the awards from home due to the stay at home orders due to the Corvid 19 pandemic.
Hosts Sharon Osbourne, Marie Osmond, Sheryl Underwood, Carrie Anne Inaba and Eve of CBS’ “The Talk,” served as the night’s host as they passed out awards in Drama, Digital, Talk Show and Culinary categories to name a few.
The winners included many familiar faces, including “Jeopardy” host Alex Trebek who took home the Emmy for Outstanding Game Show Host for the second year in a row. This marked his seventh win.
In the acting categories, Heather Tom took home her 6th Emmy for her role as Katie Logan on “The Young and the Restless. Tamara Braun took home the Outstanding Supporting Actress Award for her role as Kim Nero on “General Hospital.” The Outstanding Actor Award went to “The Young and the Restless” Jason Thompson for his role as Billy Abbott.
Bryton James of “The Young and the Restless” took home the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor. James beat out Mark Grossman (Adam Newman, CBS’s ‘The Young and the Restless’), Wally Kurth (Justin Kiriakis, NBC’s ‘Days of Our Lives ‘), Chandler Massey (Will Horton, NBC’s ‘Days of Our Lives’), James Patrick Stuart (Valentin Cassadine, ABC’s ‘General Hospital’) and Paul Telfer (Xander Kiriakis, NBC’s ‘Days of Our Lives’).
James honored the late Kristoff St John in his speech and took a time to addresss the racial injustice protests going on around the country.
“The Young and the Restless” took home the big award for Outstanding Drama Series for its tribute to St. John’s Neil Winters character with the episodes surrounding Neil’s funeral. St. John passed away in February of 2019.
The creative and children’s and animation awards will be announced next month.
