If you don’t recognize the name Linsey Morgan, you definitely know the actress by her face and work. The Latina thespian debuts as a ranger in the Walker Texas Ranger reboot, “Walker.” The upcoming CW series stars Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki as Walker, the series is a new take on the Chuck Norris series. In the reimagining of the Chuck Norris action-drama, Morgan stars as Micki Ramirez, a Texas Ranger who finds herself partnered with Padalecki’s less-than-together Cordell Walker.
From “The 100” to a run on the Emmy winning daytime drama “General Hospital,” Morgan is certainly representing Latinas in Hollywood. Her “Walker” character sets a precedent both on and off-screen.
“I know very little of the original Walker, and that was a big part to [executive producer] Anna [ Fricke] kind of telling me don’t, you know, we’re doing a completely new re-imagining of this Walker and this world,” the actress told reporters during a press conference for the show. “I love Chuck Norris and I’m a big fan of all of his Kung Fu-ness, and just a big fan of Kung Fu. I love that we’re bringing a new world to Walker and I love that I get to represent, as a Mexican American Latina actress and also being a Latina ranger on the force in the Texas Rangers. You know, I feel like it’s pretty historical and monumental, and I feel very honored that I get to represent that in this world. I love that my character is placed in a position of these two worlds and these two-kind of warring communities, but hoping to be a liaison and hoping that we can tell a story of tolerance and a story of, from two perspectives. And also not a story saying which side is right, but this is where we are, and this is who we are, and what are we going to do about it next? And hopefully, our story that we’re portraying on television can inspire others in their lives and bring more tolerance and more understanding to both sides of the coin and both sides of different perspectives of all the people in our world and in America. And I think, you know, it’s become so much more than what it was before all this.”
“Walker” stars Jared Padalecki, Linsey Morgan, Keegan Allen, Coby Bell, Kale Cully, Violet Brinson, Molly Hagan and Mitch Pileggi. The show premieres Thursday, January 21 on The CW.
