“The Equalizer” is back. This newest version is a reimagining of the classic series starring Queen Latifah (“Chicago,” “Bessie”) as Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn. McCall presents to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter. But to a trusted few, she is “The Equalizer” – an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden, who’s also dogged in her pursuit of personal redemption.
“I think her powers is that she is extremely skillful at what she does and what she’s learned. She’s a leader and knows how to delegate,” Queen Latifah said during a TCA panel to promote the show. “I think what’s most important to her right now is that she’s done with all of that. She’s done working for the people who make the big decisions. She’s done with the greed and the uber-powerful. She’s all about taking what she’s mastered deftly over the years and using it for everyone. That’s what drives her at this point. The people she couldn’t save are what makes her lose sleep.”
The series premieres on Sunday, February 7 immediately following Super Bowl LV, on the CBS Television Network then the show will air Sundays (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on CBS.
