Showtime will premiere Bitchin’: the Sound and Fury of Rick James on Friday, September 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The new documentary was directed by Sacha Jenkins. The movie presents a real look at the life of the artist. Learn the stories behind his hits “Super Freak” and “Give It to Me”. You will also learn about his use of drugs and his prison sentence for sexual misconduct and how it played a downfall in his career.
As a songwriter, performer and producer, he also collaborated with Teena Marie, Smokey Robinson, Joni Mitchell, The Temptations, Eddie Murphy, The Stone City Band, MC Hammer and The Mary Jane Girls.
Featured in the documentary are interviews from Stone City Band members, Ice Cube, Bootsy Collins, family members of Rick James and archive videos of James himself. James died in 2004.
“Bitchin’: the Sound and Fury of Rick James,” is a Mass Appeal production for SHOWTIME, directed by Jenkins, produced by Steve Rivo, and written by Jenkins, Rivo and Jason Pollard. The film is executive produced by Peter Bittenbender and Jenkins for Mass Appeal, and Douglas Banker and Ty James.
