Sydney Mikayla Checks out of ‘General Hospital’, Role of Trina Recast

General Hospital’s” Sydney Mikayla is leaving her role as Trina Robinson on the popular soap. The Emmy-nominated actress is currently in her freshman year at UCLA and is leaving to focus on her education. The role has been recast.

“I have loved working on General Hospital, but I feel like this is the right time to dive in and enjoy my college experience to the fullest,” Mikayla told Soap Digest in a statement. “The cast has become family and bringing the character of Trina to life has been one of the best experiences of my career thus far. Thank you to Frank and the entire team for believing in me and giving me this wonderful opportunity. I will miss working with everyone every day, but I am excited to see what is to come for the show.” Mikayla’s last air date will be March 17.

Taking over the role of Trina at the end of March is actress Tabyana Ali. Of daytime newcomer Ali, Valentini said “We’re excited to welcome Tabyana Ali and see what she’ll do with the role of Trina.”

“Sydney asked to leave in order to focus on college. We love her and are sad to see her go, but of course support her decision and wish her the best.”

The character of Trina Robinson is a college student at Port Charles University and the daughter of Dr. Portia Robinson and police detective Marcus Taggert. As an art history major, her job at the Jerome Gallery under the mentorship of owner and friend Ava Jerome Cassadine. Trina’s romantic life is just as complicated as she is currently involved with Cassadine heir Spencer.

General Hospital” airs weekdays on ABC.
