It was “Shower Theme Anthems Night” (yes, you read that right), on tonight’s “The Masked Singer.” In the episode called the “Group C Finals: Shower Anthems Night,” the contestants from Group C sang songs that people belt in the shower. The panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny Mccarthy, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora joined Nick Cannon as they tried to guess which celebrities were behind the characters. For the first time the chance to save a contestant was back. The “Ding Dong, Keep It On Bell” was in play if they decided to use it.
Performing this week were Group C contestants Clock, Lizard, and Poodle Moth. The winner of tonight’s show moves on to the next round. The group kicked off the show with a group number “Shower” by Becky G before heading into the competition.
First up was Clock who sang “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. She had a clue of a sweetheart on t-shirt. She’s appeared on something that Nick hosted (AGT, an awards show or his old talk show?). She also told a story where she was up for an award, (a Grammy?) against Aretha Franklin and Natalie Cole and she won. Clock didn’t think she would win so she didn’t attend to pick up the honor.
The panelists guesses were Jenny – Debbie Allen, Rita guessed Deniece Williams and Ken guessed Janet Jackson last week but changed it back to Diana Ross. No one believed in Ken’s guesses as usual.
The Lizard performed next. He sang “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence. His clues were, a picture of Justin Timberlake, he was living two lives – he got straight A’s in school but was running the school with the bad crowd (shown was Busta Rhymes “The Masked Singer” costume). He saw the inside of a jail cell more than once. Connected to Rita as they once won the same award. The panelists guesses were Jenny — Ray J, Ken — Michael Bevins, and Rita and Robin have guessed correctly.
Last to perform was Poodle Moth who sang “The House That Built Me” by Miranda Lambert
The clues for Poodle Moth were 1) Music is her therapy, 2) The family sold their childhood home (a picture of a house with a 3 hanging outside, a drama mask and a memoir. Another clue was her connection to Robin. She said she knew Robin’s Dad. The panelists guesses were Rita – Sharon Stone, Ken – Brooke Shields, Robin – Shania Twain and Jenny said Mandy Moore.
After the first round, the first to leave was Lizard. Lizard turned out to be Sisqo.
The Battle Royale was up next with the two remaining contestants Clock and Poodle Moth. Clock was victorious in the matchup and as the Battle Royale winner, moved onto the quarterfinals.
Then it was time to send Poodle Moth home but as the audience chanted “Ring the Bell,” Rita hit the bell to save her so the “The Ding Ding Keep It On Bell” is used for the season.
Clock and Poodle Moth get the next few weeks off as Group A returns next week for “Transformers Night.” The show will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the movie when special guests Optimus Prime and Bumblebee appear throughout the show to open the show, give clues and transform into backup dancers. Each celebrity will perform a song that was featured in a “Transformers” movie.
“The Masked Singer” airs Wednesdays on FOX.
