“Saturday Night Live” premiered its historic 50th season on Saturday, September 28, 2024 with host Jean Smart and Jelly Roll as musical guest. Jelly Roll performed soulful renditions of his new songs “Liar” and “Winning Streak.” Both singles are from his forthcoming album, “Beautifully Broken,” hitting stores on October 11.
The Grammy-winner, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, went really personal with the songs which touched on his struggles with alcoholism and addiction.
The singer is booked and busy with upcoming appearances at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and the Country Music Association (CMAs) in November where he is nominated for 4 awards including Entertainer of the Year. Jelly Roll will also make a stop at 2025 The Stagecoach Music Festival.
The show kicked off with a flurry of special guests in order to bring light to this election year with appearances by Dana Carvey, Andy Samberg, Maya Rudolph and Jim Gaffigan as President Joe Biden, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor and Vice Presidental Candidate Tim Walz.
The next week on Saturday, October 5 comedian Nate Bargatze returns for a second time as host supported by Coldplay as musical guest.
