It was “Footloose Night” on “The Masked Singer” as the Emmy-winning reality show celebrates the 40th anniversary of “Footloose.” Panelist Robin Thicke opened the show with a cover of “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins.
The film’s star, Kevin Bacon, recorded and sent a special message to the show to thank everyone for their support over the last 40 years. Four celebrities from Group A competed – Showbird, Buffaloes, Ship, Woodpecker – sing songs from the best-selling “Footloose” soundtrack.
Woodpecker – “Holding Out for a Hero” by Bonnie Tyler. Clues Director’s chair, mini briefcase and a gym shoe from her co-worker. Guesses were Rita said Leticia Wright, Ken said Willow Smith, and Jenny said Regina King. My guess is Marsai Martin from “black-ish.”
Buffalos – “Waiting for a Girl Like You” by Foreigner. Clues Poison bottle and Mo-Town. Guesses were Ken Bell Biv Devoe, Jenny 112 and Boys II Men and Robin said The Jonas Bros. and Big Time Rush.
Ship – “Almost Paradise” by Mike Reno and Ann Wilson. Clues Piano, Crow, and Leather boots. Guesses were Rita – Kate Bush and Sarah McLachlan; Robin said Amy Grant and Sarah McLachlan; Ken guessed Sheryl Crown.
Showbird – “Let’s Here it For the Boy” by Deniece Williams. Clues She reunited with an old love, engagement ring, and a music box. Guesses were Jenny and Rita guessed Taraji P. Henson and Sheila E.; Ken guessed correctly and said Yvette Nicole Brown, with whom he starred with on “Community.”
At the end of the day, Showbird was eliminated and was unmasked. Showbird turned out to be actress Yvette Nicole Brown. Check out her unmasking below.
Next week, the show continues with the Group A finals as the remaining celebrities perform to the theme “The Soundtrack of Your Lives.” The show will open with a performance of “High Hopes” by Panic! at the Disco, followed by sensational covers of songs near and dear to their hearts, including “Because the Night, “Put Your Records On,” and Bittersweet Symphony.”
