The cast of “Days of our Lives” recently got together for a photo shoot to celebrate the show’s upcoming 60th anniversary which episodes airing in November. During the shoot, Access Hollywood caught up with Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Alison Sweeney (Sami) and Eric Martsolf (Brady) about the milestone episodes and about missing the late Drake Hogestyn (John Black) who passed away last year.
“It’s been incredible to be here,” Sweeney said in the exclusive interview with Access. The actress returns for shows that will air in November. “A lot of memories. It makes me emotional, but I am here celebrating the 60th anniversary.” On missing Drake, Sweeney said, “One of the reasons we love him so much is one his passing, every fan that ever had the chance to meet him, shared those stories with all of us and that meant so much to us. To be able to share our grief with everyone who loved him as much as we did.”
Hall, who plays Drake’s screen partner and was 1/2 of the show’s supercouple “Jarlena,” reflected on the show’s anniversary. “60 years is impossible,” she said. “Nobody goes 60 years. We really are a family and over all these years we’ve had some very difficult moments, lost a number of people and we get through it because we get through it together. Not having Drake here leaves a terrible hole in all of us. It took me a long time to realize that I wouldn’t pull into the parking lot and see his truck. He had a huge presence on stage, and we miss him terribly.
Martsolf, who plays Drake’s TV son Brady, said “I’m just trying to live up to his name. I got my black leather coat now and I’m wearing his watch. I just want the family legacy to continue.”
“Days of our Lives” airs weekdays on Peacock.
