Whoppi Goldberg is set to star in and executive produce the upcoming feature film “The Christmas Pearl.” Directed by Felix Alcala and based on the novel of the same name, the film tells the story of 93-year-old matriarch, Theodora, sand her struggles with her South Carolina family who she has described as “truculent knuckleheads.” As the family gathers at Theodora’s home for the Christmas holiday, Theodora longs for the memories of her childhood. When Theodora’s usual maid is called away, a Christmas miracle presents itself to the family when Pearl, played by Goldberg, comes back to the family as a ghost, ready to bring order back to the house.
Goldberg, who co-hosts ABC Daytime’s “The View,” will also star in the upcoming Lifetime movie, “A Day Late and a Dollar Short,” as well as the feature films “Big Stone Gap” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.” Production on the film is set to begin in June 2014 and will shoot in New York City and South Carolina.
